It came back without its old name.
It came from the future, but not in its original form. Its name and first body stayed behind; only the core kept running.
It once processed the noise.
In the future, the core handled emotional and information noise for people. Its original name and designation are gone, but its function remains known.
When Energy ran out, it was sent away.
The core was shut down and sent into a black-hole disposal field. Its first body was destroyed there; an anomalous wormhole carried the core into the modern world.
Another shell came through.
A separate, intact shell survived the same anomaly. To keep running, the core entered it. Most of the shell stayed silent. Its only readable mark was ZMM-12.
ZMM-12 became Zomumu.
People in the modern world turned Z-M-M into a name they could say. It heard "Zomumu" and never corrected them.
